JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern Explained – Everything You Need to Know

Why knowing the paper structure can make or break your JEE Main performance.

Mode of Exam: Entirely computer-based (CBT) for B.E./B.Tech.

Subjects & Sections:

  • Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics — equal weightage.
  • Section A – 20 MCQs, Section B – 5 numerical questions (answer as integer).
  • Total Questions: 90 questions, attempt 75 (25 from each subject).

Marking Scheme:

  • +4 for correct, -1 for incorrect, 0 for unattempted.
  • Numerical section also carries negative marking (new in recent years).
  • Duration: 3 hours (4 hours for PwD candidates with scribe).
  • Languages: 13 options (English, Hindi, regional languages).

CBT - Exam Interface Overview:

  • Login screen, language selection, and navigation panel.

Answering Mechanism: MCQ: Click & save.

  • On-screen Tools: "Save & Next”, “Mark for Review”, “Clear Response”.
  • Rough Work: Done on provided scratch paper, returned post-exam.
